Sarah Miller-Locke - Boilermaker Charity Bib Program
July 13th, 8:00 am - 10:00 am
Once I saw a t-shirt that said ‘I run. I’m slower than a herd of turtles stampeding through peanut butter, BUT I RUN.’ And even though I taught a mean step aerobics class back in the 00’s, I was never a runner. I somehow found myself living outside of Utica, home of the Boilermaker Road Race. No matter what the season or temperature is – you see runners, all the time, everywhere, it was infectious. In January 2012 I started working for Food Bank of CNY. Food Bank talks a lot about nutrition and healthy eating – but they also practice what they preach. They give us a 30 minute wellness break each day, which allowed me to train for my first 5k race in 2012, the Boilermaker.
Last year Food Bank distributed more than 11 million meals into our community to our friends and neighbors who need it most. Hunger is not something that you can see – but it impacts an incredible amount of people. Specifically, 30% of those using the emergency food network here in central and northern New York are children under the age of 18. As a mother, I cannot imagine not being able to give my daughter a snack when she says “mommy I’m hungry.” Raising $500 will create more than 1,300 meals.
I may not be quite as slow as a herd of turtles – but at least I run, and this year I run for Food Bank. Please consider supporting Food Bank along with me – even $1 will create more than 2 meals to help a family in need! Thanks for your consideration. Hoping next year I will be ready for the 15k!!
