Volunteering is one of the most rewarding ways to be involved with Food Bank of Central New York.
Our volunteers are at the core of our mission - assisting us every day in our warehouse, office space, and out in the community.
Volunteers may be required to lift small packages (up to 30 lbs.), should have good organizational skills, and must be at least 14 years of age to work in our warehouse. Volunteers should dress comfortably, however closed toe shoes are required in the warehouse at all times.
Volunteers currently assist in the following areas:
Grocery Rescue Assistant: Sort through non-perishable food donations and package them in boxes based on the designated standards for the donation type.
- Office Assistant: Assist with clerical tasks in our office space.
- Special Event Volunteer: Event opportunities typically take place during the evenings or on weekends. The location and volunteer position is specific to each event.
- Group Volunteer Opportunities: Scheduled at least two months in advance and typically take place in our warehouse Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm. Groups of up to five volunteers can be accommodated at one time.
- Mobile Food Pantry Assistant: Help sort through fresh food donations, organize, and pack them into boxes for distribution for our Mobile Food Pantry program. Individuals and groups of volunteers are needed on the first and last Fridays of the month from 1:00 - 3:00 pm, as well as the second Thursday of the month from 5:30 - 7:30 pm.
We currently have a three month waiting list for new volunteers interested in assisting in our warehouse on a regular basis. If you are interested in scheduling a one-time and/or group volunteer opportunity or would like to schedule a tour to learn about our organization and future volunteer opportunities, please contact Shannon Griffin, Donor Relations & Volunteer Coordinator, at (315) 437-1899 ext. 223.
