Volunteering is one of the most rewarding ways to be involved with Food Bank of Central New York.
Our volunteers are at the core of our mission - assisting us every day in our warehouse, office space, and out in the community.
Volunteers currently assist in the following areas:
Grocery Rescue Assistant: Sort through non-perishable food donations and package them in boxes based on the designated standards for the donation type. Volunteers may be required to lift small packages (up to 30 lbs.), should have good organizational skills, and must be at least 14 years of age. Volunteers will be working in a warehouse and should dress comfortably, however closed toe shoes are required in the warehouse at all times.
- Office Assistant: Assist with clerical tasks.
- Special Event Volunteer: Event opportunities typically take place during the evenings or on weekends. The location and volunteer position is specific to each event. Click here to view upcoming event volunteer opportunities.
- Group Volunteer Opportunities: Scheduled at least two months in advance and typically take place in our warehouse Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 12:00pm. Groups of up to five volunteers can be accommodated at one time.
We currently have a three month waiting list for new volunteers interested in assisting in our warehouse on a regular basis. If you are interested in scheduling a one-time and/or group volunteer opportunity or would like to schedule a tour to learn about our organization and future volunteer opportunities, please contact Shannon Griffin, Donor Relations & Volunteer Coordinator, at (315) 437-1899 ext. 223.
