Wegmans stores in the Syracuse area will host the second annual Let’s Can Hunger food drive during the first week of December to benefit Food Bank of Central New York. Food Bank employees and volunteers will be at select Wegmans stores from 2:00 – 6:00 pm encouraging shoppers to donate non-perishable goods for distribution to hungry children, families, and seniors this holiday season. Shoppers can also donate items in advance of each store’s collection date in a specially marked bin at the front of the store.
The schedule for Let’s Can Hunger at Wegmans stores is:
Monday, December 4 – James St. & Onondaga Wegmans stores
Tuesday, December 5 – Fairmount & John Glenn Wegmans stores
Thursday, December 7 – Auburn Wegmans store
Friday, December 8 – Cicero & Taft Road Wegmans stores
Saturday, December 9 – Great Northern & Dewitt Wegmans stores
“I am so delighted that our partnership with Wegmans has expanded to include Let’s Can Hunger, allowing us to increase our donated food resources,” stated Kathleen Stress, Executive Director at Food Bank
of Central New York. “We rely on such fantastic community partners to support our efforts to ensure that food insecure families have the wholesome food they need to prepare meals at home. Hunger affects so many in
our local communities that it is wonderful to have Wegmans working with us to provide food to those who need
“It is very important for us to support our community,” stated Sal Campanino, Wegmans Perishable Manager. “We recognize there is an extensive need in our community for food. We want to make every effort to assist and find ways to provide food to those in need. Wegmans is glad to partner with Food Bank of Central New York in this effort”.
Last year’s Let’s Can Hunger campaign raised more than 7,200 pounds of food for distribution to the hungry.
