New York Beef Council, Beef Producers Association, and NYS Fair team up to Pound Out Hunger with Food Bank of Central New York
Tuesday, August 1, 2017
The New York Beef Council, Beef Producers Association, and the Great New York State Fair have teamed up with the Food Bank to Pound Out Hunger on Beef Day, Tuesday, August 29. From 10:00 am until 8:00 pm, a car will be parked near the Beef Barn, inside Gate 10. Fairgoers will be able to donate to the Food Bank in exchange for a turn to pound the car with a sledgehammer. One swing for hunger will be $2 or three swings for hunger for $5. All funds raised will be used to purchase lean ground beef to distribute to the Food Bank's partner agencies in our eleven county service area of central and northern New York.
“Agriculture – meaning, food – is the Fair’s defining mission. We strongly support efforts to get food to people who need it and can’t wait to take turns ourselves at pounding out hunger,” said Troy Waffner, Acting Fair Director.
“Beef is an important part of a healthy diet, unfortunately, high quality complete proteins can often be hard to find for those most in need,” state Jean O’Toole, Executive Director, New York Beed Council. “We are excited to partner with the New York Beef Producers Association, New York State Fair, and Food Bank of Central New York to help meet this need with such a new and fun activity.”
