Diabetes & You

Diabetes & You is a four part education series developed by Food Bank of Central New York using guided principles from accredited organizations like Feeding America and the American Association of Diabetes Educators.

The program was developed in an effort to improve the overall knowledge of food pantry guests at risk of diabetes or living with diabetes or pre-diabetes. The education series aims to inform them about the disease, how to improve self-management, ways to reduce risk, and what foods are appropriate to encourage a healthy lifestyle.

Diabetes & You sessions are conducted in collaboration with the Food Bank's partner agencies. Sessions encompass the Seven Self-Care™ behaviors for effective diabetes self-management education using the self-care workbook, Living Well With Diabetes.

Our registered dietitian conduct sessions once per week over a four week period and provide attendees with a free box of food at each education. Each box is filled with foods to encourage for managing diabetes.

The Diabetes & You program does not replace individual counseling with a physician and it cannot substitute for sessions with a diabetes educator for people with diabetes.
