Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering is one of the most rewarding ways to be involved with Food Bank of Central New York.

Our volunteers are at the core of our mission - assisting us every day in our warehouse, office space, and out in the community. Volunteers currently assist in the following roles:

  • Grocery Rescue Assistant

    • Food Packing/Sorting Assistant: Volunteers will assist with sorting and boxing food for distribution
    • School Bag Packing Assistant: Volunteers will assist with creating bags of food for distribution to children within the Syracuse City School District
  • Special Event Volunteer
  • Mobile Food Pantry Assistant: Volunteers will help distribute  food to the community and neighbors in need

Volunteers may be required to lift small packages (up to 30 lbs.) and should have good organizational skills. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age, and those who are 14-17 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who will also be volunteering. To help with Mobile Food Pantry, volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. Volunteers should dress comfortably, however closed toe shoes are required in the warehouse at all times.
